    Todays Hunt.....

Nope no coins today, not really much of anything, just a little history lesson of sorts I learned and thought I would share..Today's finds included several pieces of lead and more rimfires...A piece of a heel plate and part of a pewter utensil (I really like finding these) god only knows why
Anyhow the object recovered and the highlight of this day for me was another oil lamp thumbwheel...
Find below a link about it as well as some pics of what a burner with it attached looked like, scroll down to where it says below the pic "The Lambertson Burner-The Plume and Atwood Mfg Co. Version"

Hey Scott - what is that thumb weheel made of? I think I found a piece of one once that says 1885 on it.

    Nice find, Soup!!!

    That link was interesting, too.

None of the thumbwheels I've found had dates or other writing. There must have been a big generic market up this way!
God bless our veterans! Thank you for your sacrifices!

    Re: Todays Hunt.....

    Thanks Neil..

The no dates were probably made by thumbwheel counterfeiters,I have heard that was big back in the day

Anywho Mine have split about half and half with or without dates...this one as you now know was dated and the reading was interesting on it so it got posted,Just glad you enjoyed it Bud....

    Re: Todays Hunt.....

I like the RIO's (rusty iron objects) and relics too Scott!

Last fall Mr. Senior came out for a bit and hit the parkway work with me. He pulled a thumbwheel out of the parkway with a 1797 patent date on it, if I remember correctly.

Yep, if you want to know just how much of what is at any site, let Mr. Senior in and it's all coming to light.

That is an old wheel . . . when you start finding old "indicators" like that,
you know you're in a good spot. . . the coins ARE there (waiting to be found in 35 days )
