Re: Buttons from a famous CW General..and other items...
when the weather turns milder the wimps return.
and sooo... i finally decided to come back from florida.
now that them winter wallops are outta here.
i had kept in contact w soup during my trip.
and he kindly invited me back for more mud play.
nuthin i like better than any kinda treasure hunt
so a course i accepted.
but the next day was going to be cold and blustery
so i decided to stay where i was and do just a short hunt.
vs these longer field hunts.
being sore from 3 days of mining at the ALABAMA
GOLD CAMP. i chose the tesoro silver umax for its light
weight w the 10x12 coil it gets em.
late in the hunt got a real banger signal.
which turned out to be the AMERICAN BOWLING CONGRESS
medal . i always felt this park still held an old goodie or two.
although soup took a great picture of it, u cannot read what it sez
.12th annual international tournament american bowling
congress mar 2-23 1912. so iz 99 yrs old.
i was very excited to find.
made by whitehead and hoag newark nj. which is a famous
company in american advertising novelties.
sice there is nothing in the pic for sizing u cannot tell.
but this item is very large silver dollar size.
looking from the back u can see the medal
is uniform in size and shape undamaged.
unforunately it is struck somewhat off center which makes
it appear that part of the wreath is missing.
oh well crude manf on an early piece.
wife calling for a honeydo.gotta go for now.ill
be back to comment on the field hunting asap.

no. sorry. it was some gremlins in my electric
system and various other things that stack up while gone.
anyway heres my version of the 2 day hunts.
after finding the bowling medal i was all set to really
hit it on the field hunting. soup had mentioned
a park he thought might hold some silver.
this turned out poor due to my not having
the right detector with. imho one should not try for
deepies without an etrac . i was using my excal 2
in the park, but w/o my readout i was helpless.
we both found the place loaded w trash anyway.
it was quickly decided to switch to another site
and boy it was closeby.
soup has done such great research around his area.
that we scarcely missed a a few minutes and were
on site quickly. wow.
this old homesite had a lot more targets than previous
sires we were on but most scrap.
the copper butterfly wing got my attention and i
was concentrating hoping to find the other half.
no dice. but a happy day trying to find stuff is great
by me.we agreed to find it tomorrow.
next day i shook my habitual tardiness and actually arrived
a little early. i was wondering where the pickup was.
but as usual soup were spying on me and knew where
i was. so ifind out were going in his brand new
mitsubishi wonder truck. i was very hesitant to put my
muddy machines and gear in it. he oked things n were off.
were discussing the features of this top of the line truck
which has many bells n whistles . i wondered if we were gonna
go 4 wheelin to some back road site.
soon we pulled down a long lane. checking to see
on mud conditions. pretty wet.
well were here so lets get it. plunging into the mud.
soup was edge detecting mostly where it was somewhat
drier. i had the mistaken idea that the good stuff
was out there further . well. u laugh if u see me.
waddling thru the corn stubble trying not to sink in.
like a fat mans hop scotch game.
neither of us finding much. soup lookin a bit muddy too.
after awhile soup scores the chaffeur badge. wow.
cool. now i gotta try n find somethn.
i switched more to the field edge where it was drier
because i had no energy left to hopscotch.
we had only 20 min left. found where general lee
surrendurred his suspenders.
got lucky at the very end and found a military button.
then a big signal which was plumbing and eyeballed
an identical button on top.
just as were leaving i find a 50 cent pc. oyyyyy play money
just my luck .oh well.
it was time to go. this wonder truck has a rear cam
on it so u can see behind u. we backed out so fast it nearly scared me.
soup gotsa good camera and took pics for me.
thank u scott for fun hunting again.
hes telling me that the house site belonged to the man
who sold him a previous car.
im curious as to what the man who sold him his new truck
might have had to promise to.
