Today I went out metal detecting with DDub & Lookn4seated out in the woods and we all found some great stuff but I will let them post what they found. This half was worn as a necklace as its still in the bezel, When I 1st seen it all covered in dirt I thought it was a forign coin. :tongue3: This is my 2nd 1800's half in a week (other was an 1894o Barber) and were going back to metal detect that site again in the morning!!!

$1 each Mark

It was initially the hope of the Exposition commission that 40 million pieces be struck. However, only 5 million were ultimately authorized. For this reason, surcharge was set at fifty cents, bringing the total cost for purchase of the commemorative to one dollar. The Columbian Half Dollar was minted exclusively at the Philadelphia Mint. Mintage began on November 19, 1892.

Yup and the other commemorative coin that was made for the Chicago's Worlds Fair was the Isabella Quarter, it also cost $1. They made those in 1893 and they worth a whole lot more than the Expo half.
