Anyone ever hunt a ravine before

There's alot of ravines up where I'm at by the lake. I wonder if it is worth it or if the finds would be washed down to the bottom of the ravines over the years. Any ideas?

Yep, canyons, rock cliffs, ravines, gulleys and steep river banks.

Found one of my best cache spills in the rocks in a washed out canyon one time. Apparently someone's depression era stash had gotten washed off one of the cliffs or banks and spread all over the creek bed. Didn't amount to much face value or coin wise but it had to have been stashed together and busted out in the flood because of the close mint dates and narrow selection of coinage.

They're also good for rockhounding as the loam, glacial drift or whatever bedding is cut through like a knife exposing all the layers. One of the spots in the park near me has been a favorite of local rockhounds for the geodes that get washed from the layer they sit in.

Lastly and unfortunately, or fortunately depending on what's there they were used as dump sites for lots of those intermediate years between home dumpsites and communal dumpsites. Look for buttons, bottles, model T Fords, etc. in them.

I have also found that usually any of the coins I have found on the side of a hill or incline were never deep. Usually a inch or two and some times just laying there. I also found on one occasion were the steep side meets the flat ground i found a seated half and seated dime stuck together standing on end. Found by accident because I slipped going down the small hill, and the coil went side ways and I got a nice ping. I went over it standing and could hardly pick it up.

I'll give it a try. Thanks for the info. I've found lots of old bottles and bricks and the like in them. I also know that kids played in them because I was one of them.
