    Old Farm House Finds

Recently was given permission to hunt a old farm house south of town. The house is completely boarded up as it has been vandalized several times. At first I didn't think it was to old but the finds so far seem to indicate some age.

As of right now I have only hunted less then 20% of the lawn area and these are a few of the finds I've made so far. The Borg Warner Employee Tag isn't all that old as The York Division in Decatur only goes back to the early 50's. I personally worked there from 1968 till it closed in 1984. It is in pretty good condition for being 6 inch's deep, strange there was so little corrosion. The 1929 Wheat cent, the 25 cent Good for Token and 1918 dog tag is what tells me the property has some age.

Plan on doing a lot more hunting there as the weather will permit (been raining almost every day recently). Rick

    Re: Old Farm House Finds

Thanks for the nice comments. I only found two older coins that day and only one was silver, and silver is what we are all looking for, but the token, dog tag, and Borgwarner workers badge is history and that is what has kept me interested in this hobby so many years.

Will post more photo's if I find anything else of interest and I'm sure I will. Thanks Rick

    Re: Old Farm House Finds

Found this yesterday during a short hunt on the farm. Was run out by rain again.

It was 14 inch's down and was about to give up because of the impending rain but glad we stuck it out. Think this is going to be a fun place to hunt. Appears to be a old hub cap from a Model T ford. Rick.

Some of your finds have some great age to them. . . a lot of "oldies" are just waiting in that remaining 80% of yard

    Re: Old Farm House Finds

Was going to go over to hunt this afternoon as we have had a cool but beautiful day, but honey doe's got in the way. Plan on going again in the morning.

Both my son and I are experiencing high emi problems at this location making the machines very noisy, and a lot of chatter I have noise cancelled several times but to no avail. My son hunts with a Fisher CZ-6 and says his is the same infact he can not ground balance the machine it is so bad. At first we thought that since we had power lines on both sides of the property that was the problem but I have hunted right next to high voltage lines and noise cancelling took care of it.

Yesterday I was driving past this farm and noticed 1/8 mile south west of it is over head power plant lines carring many many thousands of volts of electricity and is probably the problem. Tomarrow I will go back out there and set my machine using auto sensitivity and back the sensitivity off a few notch's to see if that helps. I'm pretty sure it will smooth it out.

We have been very surprised at the depth of our finds. Even newer coins are running 6 to eight inch's deep. Yesterday I got a really deep 12-34 12-36 and thought of boy my first Indian Head penny with the E-Trac. Nope it was a Zincoln at 8 inch's. The soil is very black and loss probably the reason everything is so deep.

We will keep you posted on what ever we find out there. I'm sure there are some more really fun finds to be made. Rick
