The object in the right field is called a 'globus cruciger'; a Christian symbol of authority; symbolizing Christ's (the cross) dominion over the world (the orb).

    Re: ??identification? educated guess?

Just guessing but could it have been worn on a jacket or a hat as a pin?
Maybe that post would hold it in place through a button hole.

Or maybe it was the first attempt at making a punch that puts those holes in the White Castle Burgers...

One possible clue: 'Arad' is a Romanian capital city and the seat of the Romanian Orthodox archbishop.

    Re: ??identification? educated guess?

wow no idea... looks very interesting though. Those are some of the greatest finds Mark... when you are forced to do some research on your find. That's when you learn something new and hopefully very cool.

Maybe it is part of The Davinci Code? Watch out for albinos wearing loin cloths.

    Re: ??identification? educated guess?

Could You make a wax or plaster cast of the inside to show detail?
With a swage seated on the pin could it have been used as a stamp for embossing
    copper or brass foil?
    this is intriguing.
