Chicago Consolidated bottle & Morels

Met up with L4s this morning for a little hunt, I didn't find much in way of morels but I did see the bottom half of the bottle sticking out of the ground. Im gonna go back sometime and dig around and see what else I can pullup. This bottle is heavier than a hutch bottle and wouldn't doubt if it weighed over 1lb, they definitely don't make them like they used to.

Awesome bottle.......good luck on finding more. Cool I see a few people starting to get mushrooms so I am going to try my luck at finding some.

Nice old bottle Kermit. Do you soak your morels overnight before eating them?
I always rinsed, cut in half and soaked them overnight. Have not found any yet
this year.

Nah this time I cut them in half and soaked for a little more than an hour in salt water (just to draw the bugs out) then pat dried, now im gonna string them up to dry them out.

dang that's a sweet bottle... I know I have an article on that company around here somewhere... I can't believe those old bottles are still around and in one piece. I'm trying to get a small collection of old chicago brewery bottles for my homebrew and would love to find those rather than pay $10 + shipping on ebay!

Chicago Consolidated Brewing and Malting Co. was formed in 1890 and lasted until 1933. Located at the site of the Conrad Seipp Brewery of Lakeshore and 27th St.

Either that or Chicago Consolidated Bottling Co. was a venture started by a group of smaller Chicago breweries who needed to compete with the AB's, and Schlitz's but could not afford to have their own bottling facilities. They all brewed their beer and sent it to the bottling plant to be bottled and shipped.

Fun history for sure.
