Shortest 2 dig hunt brings silver.

Good morning all. My last post I was saying I will be posting more in the Illinois thread. So here we are.

Let me set the scene for you. It was a fine Sunday morning, I was sitting outside with my lovely wife. I started to get bored and grabbed my wedge golf club and a plastic practice ball. My wife put a stop to that real fast when she figured out I was hitting the ball at her. So then I decided to clean my trunk where I keep all my detecting equipment. I was really just wanted to see how much battery life was remaining on the detector when I figured, hey why not? Let me tell you, I have detected my yard before, but only to test settings. I rent the house and my landlord, who lives in the area, frowns upon digging holes in the yard. I only dug 2 things today and it took less then 5 minutes. A shotgun shell and a silver war nickel. 1945 S

I dedicated the video to my buddy Rob to be funny.

Here is the coin after I rinsed it a bit.

I'm with Mark, with 50/50 finds, I'd even take the clad!

Remember this when looking at the wedge and the detector, gentlemen swing coils, cave men swing clubs.

WTG on pulling silver on the second dig. Good work cutting and replacing the plug.

War nickels are rarer than silver dimes. . . IMO. . . nice recovery and welcome to the IL forum

    WTG on that war nickel!
I think the only time I've ever found them was in a spill.

Thanks. This is my first this year. I found 3 last year. For some reason they come up under 32 on the dfx, then when you get close to it while digging and pin point, it comes up as nickel. Must be that funky 30% silver to alloy ratio.

I agree with watercolor, I have only been detecting for 6 years now, and last year was the first year I found a war nickel. I have found more silver quarters than war nickels.
