Had a good day out with dad!

Had two pvt lawns to hunt both of which have some pre 1900 history. Got to the first one early this morning found out the property was very tiny (i thought the entire back lot was owned by the home owner. Ended up the property line was right on the back of the house giving us about a 20x20 area to hunt in. Dad was able to pull out two wheaties while we were there (I think they were a '29 and '57). We when hit up another lawn I had permission to hunt. I was really looking forward to this one for the past week or so. Turns up that he had brought in some dirt some time ago so the finds were slim. No silver but I was able to recover to pretty cool relics! One is a 1913 Motor Vehicle Registration Tag! The other is a Ives Kendrick & Co *Superfine* button (1830's).

    good luck out there!!

    Whoa!

Wouldn't that be one of the earliest two-piece buttons? SUPERFINE is right!

Awesome tag! It'd be very cool to find out who used it on what.

There's been a few (2-3) motor bicycle tags that have shown up on this board in the past few years, but I don't think any of them have been in the shape that yours is in. Glad you had a good day.

Re: Had a good day out with dad!

best part of the day was spending it with the old man! I am glad I had pulled out a roasted button a week or two ago then talked with herbie (steelheadwill) who sent me a link to buckleboys post on how to clean up buttons. So i pulled out the navel jelly and went to work yesterday. The vehicle tag would fully clean up but I had to run to a chilli party so I took some photos and ran out the door! Hope everyones enjoying their weekend!

Naval jelly does wonders on those old buttons. Have saved a few using that method. Nice tag and button.

I believe it was essentially the registration tag. Here is a link to illinois history of plates/registration..
