    Anyone read hieroglyphics?

Risked life and limb in the ESTL ghetto today; recovered this strange medallion. The back side was clear, but looked to once contain some paper label. I'm guessing Cracker Jack toy, or there is possibly a Stargate located somewhere near...

    Re: Anyone read hieroglyphics?

I actually did know someone who read hieroglyphs and also demotic Egyptian glyphs, but she is now on faculty at EKU; she was a student at U of Chicago till 2008. I am pretty sure the middle symbol (big one) is RA, the sun god. I don't know if the rest is actually glyphs or fake glyphs. If you are ever up in Chicago, you can stop by U of C's oriental institute. I am sure someone even in the museum could tell you more, but as I guess they may be fake. BTW the oriental institute has one of the best archeology museums in the US with many artifacts from Ancient Assyria, Babylon, Ur, Israel, and Egypt, its amazing and actually one of the best museums in Chicago and never crowded...

    Re: Anyone read hieroglyphics?

A lot of good luck tokens came out at the same time of the "spiritual movement" from the 1890's on up through the years of the "Great War" and Egyptian motifs were common along with swastikas, Bud Billikens, etc..

The one you found might be one of those early tokens or souveniers from an early King Tut tour through one of the museums that had these popular displays. You might check around with token or souvenier sites for a positive ID.
