1916 merc! And I scratched it!

Made it out for a little bit today and met up with PocketSpill, CladTheImpaler, and another guy... before they showed up I had an iffy dime signal about 7 inches. I pinpointed the dime or so I thought and first dug two big nails out... then the dime popped out with a big scratch! I put it in my water bottle right away and washed it off. When I removed it and saw the 1916 I think I dumped in my pants... I knew the other side was scratched and was I was going to be really pissed off if it was a D! I would have still loved it anyways but it turned out to be a false alarm

After a few hours of clad and wheats and lots of mud, I found the 42 merc in about 1" of dirt. It always surprises me to find silver so shallow.

Enjoy the weather yall and HH!

    Nice finds,
Too bad that was not a 1916-d, but then again we'd have revoke your detecting privileges if you had scratched a 16-d.... I had a nightmare like that which ended with Mr. Senior walking away with my E-trac with d-dub and l4s in tow walking away never to speak to me again (and taking my detector).

Uh, hey, there is a D on the back. Look again. It's right before the IME on the lower right side.

    Show me more shiny things!

That was too funny Jon, I spewed my monster drink after reading that.

Congrats on the '16 dime...I know the feeling (the dump in your pants feeling) Wait until you dig a '16 merc, turn it around, and you see a mint mark...it's an "S". I've stared so hard at 'em, that after awhile, it actually looks like a "D". I've even stared out a "D" out of Philadelphia mint ones too.

I know that feeling too Jon! Down with Soupie I dug a 1916S out of the fields and it took about 10 minutes before I could work up the courage to peel off the dirt clump on the back. We both watched in suspense as a mint mark came into view and showed us the S. Pretty exciting few minutes though.

Hey Rob, the larger coin thing is a silverback ape token from the Zoo's ape house. It is actually silver-like in color but in the photo it came out dark for some reason.

    Awesome hunt. . .
