Took a road trip over the fourth to Michiana. Spent some time in New Buffalo, Michigan and went into Michigan City, Indiana. I was planning on hitting a park on Washington street that a meijer worker pointed out to me but ran out of time. Anybody ever hunt that place or know anything about it? I am back over by Lake Erie now and wont be back that way for quite some time. Too bad it was a great place! I have not ever seen and heard so many fireworks at once! very cool! :icon_thumleft:

Hi!

By chance are you referring to Washington Park?

I've detected there a few times...the beach is the spot to swing the coil, IMO.

I'll be hunting Lake Erie area (Catawba/Marblehead areas) in a couple of weeks...are you close to that area?

Hey Vibes,

Yeah that's the place. We stopped into Meijers to pick up some water shoes and seen all the historic photos on the wall. I stopped and talked with a woman that worked there and she was telling me how her family dated back to setting days. Told me about how that park was named Fetters Ally in the early days. We hung around Sawyer, New Buffalo, and a lot of time at Warren State park. Very cool place. I could not believe how clean the lake was. Lake Erie you cant see your feet ankle deep. Its nasty water.
I am right on the Michigan Ohio border next to Toledo OH. Let me know if that's the area you guys are heading. I will toss a couple spots of interest your way. Which I would of known that was your guys area.... We would of loved to join your guys 4th July hunt. :-\ TC/HH

Heya MemorialMagnet!

Ahhh...you were in Sawyer, one of my fave places when up at the Dunes. I don't usually hang at Warren Dunes but just down the road from there in Bridgman (Weko Beach) ...I love to rock hound the beach...beautiful rocks and fossils. I find the dunes to be a very magical place.

If my memory serves me correctly there was an amusement park at washington Park wayyy back in the day.

We had a fun hunt on the 4th...and next time we gather you should join us!!

I'll be on Catawba Island July 17th-26th...not too far from you. I have one FULL day set aside to do nothing but MD...the 21st (A Tuesday)...wanna join me?

Drop me a line when it gets a little closer. We will see what is going on. As far as Washington street..... The park was a little full but, I was not to worried. Spent a lot of time in Detroit so the activities were not that scary. :D

Washington Park is the big park by the beach. No detecting allowed there. It's on a big sign on the entrance. I know it's been that way for at least 5 or 6 years. You can detect the beach but not the park. One of the few city parks around here that have it posted.

Huh, I didn't know that the park is off limits--tells how long it's been since I last visited.
