I don't know if you all are dead or what, haven't seen any posts in a while so i will ask this question because i'm too lazy to look it up myself. What is the difference between an IH penny and an IH fatty?

I'm thinking that the Fatty's were between the years 1859-1864. If I'm not correct, then someone please enlighten me as well.

Here's a bit of info. off the net.

The coins struck between 1859 and 1864 contained 88% copper and 12% nickel. During this time, prior to the issuance of the Five-Cent nickel coin, the cent was commonly referred to as a "Nickel" or "Nick," for short. Due to the hoarding of all coinage during the Civil War, the nickel cents disappeared from daily use and were replaced in many Northern cities by private tokens. The success of these copper tokens prompted the change of the cent to a similar metal. In 1864, the alloy changed to Bronze (95% copper and 5% tin and zinc), and the weight of the coins was reduced from 72 grains to 48 grains. (This weight continued for copper-alloy U.S. cents until the 1982 introduction of the current copper-plated zinc cent.

I seen the last posts but that was about a week ago. I just thought you all died and left me all the hunting grounds. With all the trees sheding i haven't much time to get out lately.

Man this has been one crazy busy year. Home repairs, work, kids in school, and such, just haven't been able to detect as we did last year.

I'm averaging 1 hunt a week, maybe 2 if that. Being limited on time kinda' limits where one can hunt, and those places that we do hunt have been pounded to death, yet they do produce finds from time to time.

I think once the ground gets some much needed moisture back in it I'll be hunting a bit more frequently. Just getting tired of stabbing the dirt for the first 4-6 inches to get a ugly Zincoln

Yep thats right on the money the nickle IH's I dig are always in worse shape than the bronze ones. HH
