Kokomo's First Swimming Hole.

Early-day Kokomo's swimming hole was in Wildcat Creek about half way between where the Washington and McCann street bridges now stand. There wasn't a bath tub in the town, and in summer all men and boys bathed there regularly.

This would likely be on the North side of the Wildcat. All of Kokomo was on the North side then. The creek has been dredged before but the Banks along Foster park should be mostly intact.

In July, 1874

Members of the Friends Sunday school went to West Middleton on the new railroad and enjoyed a picnic in the sugar grove on the William Middleton farm. About 200 persons attended.

Probably other picnics were had in the same grove. Some research could pay off...........GRiley

Went out to West Middleton today, talked with the post office and an old farmer. They did not know of a Middleton farm. The lady at the post office gave a number to the Russiaville historian and he was unfamiliar. They all agreed that the one person that would know was being buried today at 2 pm.

I saw it now, saw the farm. Well have to take another trip out there. Looks as if it is the property on the south side of the road and tracks. Just now need to find the owner.

I was able to get out to west Middleton again. Talked to a man about the farm behind him. He said the lady that owns it is in a retirement home. Drove around to the other side, but didn't really see anything, that one may be lost to time. But if you want to follow up more, contact the Russiaville historian. He knows the lady, I didn't get her #, for I do not need to call that place, dad is in one, and its hard enough to talk to people that age. I was told she is still good, but talks. Good luck, if you get more info, that would be worth a look see when your time gets available.
