Depends on which state park. Most parks don't allow detecting other than on beach areas on a lake. When inquiring with a park manager once I was given a flat out "no" when asking about the beach, I found out later that others had received the same response.

MDHTALK - Indiana Metal Detecting Law & Regulations

Sec. 10. Except as authorized by a license, a person must not do any of the following within a DNR property:
(7) Use a metal detector, except on a sand, swimming beach as approved by an authorized representative.

You might try talking to the park manager in person (not over the phone or by email). From what I understand each park is different, some allow it and turn a blind eye while others will get pissy about it.

No detecting in state parks except the beach when and if you can get permission and all federal land is off limits as well. HH
