Re: Is this necklace Victorian?
30s I believe by the stone mounting process.. Clasp has been changed. Stone is most likely glass. I would advise taking it by your local jeweler.
New toys take time to learn to use: New forums takes time to learn to use! Its why people prefer their old ones.

Re: Is this necklace Victorian?
Obsidian can be used in jewelry to great effect. After all it is volcanic glass.

Re: Is this necklace Victorian?
I think it's a little earlier than the Art Deco era (30s) and would consider the Art Nouveau (Victorian) era for this piece.
I've been looking at examples of each for a while now and think the late 1890s to early 1910s is a good place to start.
I would not know about value... you need the stone looked at... there must be a makers-mark on it someplace?

onyx stone or volcanic "obsiden" glass if its victorian are good bets as is "plain "black glass" as well.
