What is the "Melt Down Value" of your gold or silver jewelry??

Obviously Jewelry is worth more than melt down value at any given time because of the added value of design, asthetics and/or precious gemstones. But, here is how to determine the melt down value of your gold or silver jewelry.

You will need a a piece of jewelry that is not just gold plated, but actually gold or .925 Silver, a scale that can weigh in grams and finally a calculator.

Simple formula for all to figure this out . . .

(Gold Spot/31.1034768) * (Grams/Carat%) = Melt Value

GOLD (Or Platinum)
24k = 100%
18k = 75%
14k = 58.3%
10k = 41.6%

SILVER
Most Italian Silver is .925 Pure and all Sterling Silver is .925 Pure
(Silver Spot/31.1034768) * .925 * Grams = Melt Value

For todays spot price on gold, silver or platinum click the "Metals" link above on this page.

PM me with questions or corrections.
