Where are the other detectorists?
I'm in Northwest Kansas. I only know of one other detectorist in this area. I'm interested in getting out and doing some detecting and maybe looking for a arrowhead or 2.

I'm in Sherman county. I had someone tell me that metal detecting is not allowed in my area or yours in city parks.

Yeah I know about Hays too. The town I live in doesn't allow detecting in the parks either. I called the parks dept and they weren't exactly nice when they told me that detecting isn't allowed in the parks here. They basically told me that if I want to detect parks I better go to another town because and I quote That crap is not allowed in this town.

Re: Where are the other detectorists?
I've had someone call the police on me for detecting twice. The first time it happened I was detecting in my own yard. The 2nd time I was detecting my sister's yard. It was funny though because both times the cop ended up walking away laughing.

Re: Where are the other detectorists?
Society is just getting stupid anymore. People are afraid of their own shadows nowdays, I have a police scanner and some of the stuff I hear on it just proves all that out. such stupid ****.... heard one yesterday about an anti-freeze flow running down the street in hays, turns out, after 3 firetrucks are sent out on the call, it was just algae from someones swimming pool when they were cleaning it out from the winter. Nice neighbors ya got for calling you in when your on your own yard. I think if people would get away from the TV's and get outside things would be a lot better. Now people all hide behind their blinds and fenced yards and just become paranoid.

I see I'm not the only one who's had problems with people who don't like anyone who uses a detector.

Re: Where are the other detectorists?
Hey Luke. How long you been in Hays? I grew up there. Moved away around '80. I live in Coldwater now. Been here since '84. Try the Big Creek banks west of TMP-Marian all the way south to 12th Street. I'm willing to bet it's never been swung over. I played there a bunch when I was a kid.

Well, not in Hays but in Ellis. Lived here forever. Who owns the stuff by TMP?

Re: Where are the other detectorists?
Not sure but I think the school may own it, at least the east side. We'd get on the creek there and raft down to the park back in the early 70's.
