What can I find in North Central Kansas?

Besides coins in the park, what can I find? Where should I look? Did native Americans use any metals that might lead me to native tools? I am very new to the subject and can useall of your expertise.

Are you from that area and already know some of the history or are you new to the area?
Are you near the Oregon Trail? Any old house foundations out in the country?

A friend used to do CW re-enacting. They were at Ft. Harker for some sort of open house.
One of the group was putting in a tent stake and hit a US belt plate.
It was on state land so he didn't get to keep it.
