Go to the local library and look at the oldest maps you can find and cross reference them to a current plat book and then locate the owners and ask for permission. You should be able to locate old churches, schools and read the old newspapers to find out where the local picnics were held and maybe even the old swimming hole was. Alot of the backroads were named after certain areas as well, Oakgrove, Maplegrove, etc and its also usefull to speak to the older people in town to find out where they went to school, hung out, had picnics, carnivals and went swimming etc. Hope this helps some!! Ask the librarian if they have a local history section, I have found some great hunting places looking through the local archives. Especially revival meetings, count fairs, any place where there was a large gathering. Even possably old maps could be in the archives then reference them to the current maps.
