In the 70's I worked for the Highway Dept and we ran a new road in the area. The surveying team included a local boy from Spencer County who told us of the Quantrill story. He said that the Quantrill party had robbed the bank of Taylorsville (poss $10,00 taken?) met up with a mule-drawn wagon and Quantrill took out a sword and killed the mules. After the attacked at the farm, Quantrill's sword became the possession of the Wakefield familyand according to the local guy "still belonged to 'Ole Man' Wakefield", the current owner of the farm.
It is said that the money from Taylorsville Bank is buried somewhere between the bank and the barn as it was not found with Quantrill's party.
Curiously, another member of our survey team was named Terrill.
