I had a perfectly fine interview process - good communication, showed up on time on Skype, spent 15-20 minutes talking and being "interviewed" and followed up later saying thank you but I wasn't selected.

Then again .............that was clearly a quick production and should be more well thought out......to include more info........at least in discussion......

it wouldnt have taken a long time to realize what a person has is real or not.......so by them merely blowing me off, and possibly you, I felt it was rushed.

You can see the difference......i will wait to see it before I actually comment on it all......

just saying that it would be nice to see the channel that bought it work towards proving history.....instead of talking about it

Trust me. It was not rushed at all. It was a several month process. They took their time, but they were looking for specific personalities. One thing every reality show has in common is that they have different people performing the same function on most shows (pleasant oaf, serious leader, kooky go along, ex military hardcase, smart researcher, professional specialist, etc). Each show is looking to fill certain rolls. When they get more than one of a certain type, they boot the others if the others can't fill other rolls.

Which is exactly why its scripted drama made for entertainment vs. historical investigation where personalities wouldn't matter. Do you think Cambridge University is going to ask Hawking to step down because he doesn't have personality? They should make a show with those with the best information, best skills, best ideas, etc. Let the audience discover and take in the personalities of those people........don't "create" entertainment and serve it up on a dish, void of the real substance that a show like this should be putting out there.

What you seem to be failing to understand is that a show such as you want, would not be entertainment to most people. They have a formulae that works for TV. They don't care what a few hundred actual treasure hunters would enjoy. They care about getting several hundred thousand into the millions to watch the show. Their formulae has proven itself over and over again. Gold Rush, Ghost Hunters, Ghost Hunters Intl, Mountain Monsters, Alaskan Monsters, etc, etc, etc. If the cast does like they plan, and there are the correct ratios of likability to hostility, then people start caring and keep watching. Its not scripted either. They put people in scenarios, and get their honest reactions. Then, all of that is thrown into the blender and produced for TV. Cliffhangers before every commercial, wrapping up with a big "stay tuned til next week!"

THESE ARE NOT TREASURE HUNTING DOCUMENTARIES! THEY ARE PRODUCED FOR TV ENTERTAINMENT!

I am currently working with one company that is trying to get together something interesting that is fact based, not story based. It is more of a documentary than anything I have seen pitched to me so far. Its still only in the planning stage, so still a long way from shooting anything. We'll see.

Wow! After you guys have stated how they picked your friends, now I really can't wait to see the show.:laughing7: I will try to pick out deducer's drama queen, the one who is not normal, sane, or rational, golloms' pleasant oaf, and kooky go along, and the one who is special, or unique as cubfan put it. Wow, and you guys wanted to reprimand me?:laughing7:

Sorry Paul, I sure hope you were not over qualified.:dontknow: I knew they were not interested in presenting history judging from their last show, and with the sykpe request I knew they were just looking for characters. Sure am glad I turned that interview down, I would of been tarred, and feathered here.

gollum, I agree with everything your saying. I just would like to see more real tv not reality tv I guess. I remember the older africa safari shows, and Jacques Costeau........they could spend months or even a year shooting footage that maybe got squeezed into a few hours. No doubt production costs were much higher to do something substantial like that, but they didn't need any personalities. People didn't have to be professional or amateur explorers to enjoy Costeaus ocean adventures or the african safari type shows. TV has gone to waste........

Its not the shows that have changed so much. Its the people watching TV. If nobody turned on The Kardashians or Honey Booboo, then they would not make them. Crappy reality TV is a boon to the TV Production Companies. They pay virtually nothing to the actors. They are very cheap to make, and the nuttier the better.

Have any idea how much it costs to shoot a year's worth of filming on another continent? Then, you cut 99% of it out to fit it into one or two hours of TV. INCREDIBLY wasteful spending. Those days of throwing a lot of money around are long past. Without a name like Jacques Cousteau, nothing like that is likely to get made.

The only way a "Documentary" type treasure hunting show will get done is if there is a known find before, and the production company only comes in to film the recovery for a special on Natgeo or something similar.

Couldn't have said it better myself Mike - they have a formula that makes them money and that's the name of the game. Let's face it - for those of you who remember Blindbowman, HE would have been a shoe-in for a show like this!

In a similar vein, I always get a kick out of the people who think the folks who write books about the Lost Dutchman Mine are making a killing $ wise. There's a teeny tiny market for those kinds of books - I seriously doubt there's much money in writing them.

I would actually argue that Mike himself would have been a perfect fit. He is charismatic, has a colorful personality, yet is quite intelligent and articulate and chock full of historical tidbits- he is more than capable of dropping 10 or 20 second soundbites all over the place, which is what TV loves and worships.

BB, on the other hand, was prone to rambling, and was all over the place. That's toxic to a TV producer; he would have been a nightmare to edit down.

That being said, Mike is going to get his shot someday.

Agreed that Mike would be excellent in a reality show - good personality, doesn't take crap from anyone, has strong convictions, etc... all make for good entertainment value. I disagree with you on BB though - yes he might have been difficult to edit down, but he would have created constant drama and interactions between the rest of the cast. I show solely dedicated to BB no way, but put him in a group dynamic and he'd fit right in with the Honey BooBoo crowd - nothing like a crazy person on a show to get people to watch and talk about it.

That said, he might have gotten someone killed or himself for that matter.

The best media is that which is not made to entertain. Many book authors, youtube producers, TN posters, etc. do it for either no money or very little money. Its some of the best information out there and entertaining. I realize that may not have mass appeal. But a good treasure story, and there are many, appeals to many. Its essentially an unsolved mystery.

its sad about television. I mean look at the news. That has become entertainment. The only thing worth listening too for news anymore is NPR, which I find very informative and full of good stuff, with no spin.

Also I disagree that this is what people want. What people want doesn't matter. The media serves what the media wants. And people accept it. This has allowed media to control people, which is unfortunate. Media doesn't get together and say "what do people want". They get together and decide what they want to serve up..........its a mess.....which is why I don't watch much TV. Besides I live in Florida, I can pretty much detect 24/7/365, so that would be wasted time!

I remember reading a long time ago that there were 8 Peralta mines. Most were covered up and well hidden with caliche. (did I get that spelling correct?) One was never hidden too well because it was thought that with its remoteness that no one would ever find it. That one is the Lost Dutchmans Mine.
