I was curious about this as well when I saw it. Wanted to ask you knowledgable folks whether this was a flaccid Saguaro or a signifier?

Just had an afterthought that this screencap could be copyright infringement. If so let me know and I will remove it.

in the USA a citizen should have the expectation of walking about freely.

However , thanks to certain factions Freedom is only a distant memory in books.

I don't want to get into the off topic politics, So I am refering to the publics
loss of public land use rights

Funny how the part in bold wasn't in my quote when I submitted it. And now it is. Mod powers for the win.

That's because it is not your Quote anymore. It's my response.

you asked " should not" ?
I emphasized "Should" !
in order to show my personal distaste for Land Protection acts
protecting Our land from us.

Are you saying you have a problem with my response ?
are you accusing me of editing your post ?
are you just trying to take this thread farther off Topic ?

Gollum,

I have captured the following from an article that I am reading and interested in your thoughts about 1)Julia producing maps and 2) that she could be the beginning of the Tales told about the LDM
(Notwithstanding that Mr. Waltz did exist, did find gold and was a documented miner/prospector with his name on numerous claims)

"Shortly after Waltz's death Julia Thomas, Rhinehart and Hermann Petrasch traveled to the Superstition Mountains to locate Waltz's rich gold mine. After several weeks in these rugged mountains Thomas and the Petrasches returned to Phoenix empty handed and broke. Disappointed and broke Thomas produced several maps with misinformation on them. She sold these maps hoping to compensate for her losses. The Petrasch brothers hunted for Waltz's mine for the rest of their lives. Julia Thomas was the first searcher for the Dutchman's Lost Mine. The origin of the Dutchman's Lost Mine may have started with Julia Thomas."

I believe Julia's map has not false informations . She described on paper the clues which she had heard , but some of these like the " rock horse " and the " three pines " , she had put them wrong in the map . These two clues are very close to the mine and show how those who were on the Waltz's deathbed , have hidden these clues from the public .

As a member of the GPAA and the Desert Gold Diggers in southern AZ we fight everyday against the BLM and their land grabbing rule changes but the people back east have already had their rights taken away long ago.
So the fight out here continues. Hopefully this show will bring more attention to the rights to our land being slowly sucked away from us over time. The days of the lone man working his mine like the Dutchman are almost gone.
With all the environmental crap, bonds, access roads and new illegal rules only large mining companies have the ability to gain access to the gold deposits and it gets worse every year.
Our club lost a huge portion of their claims because their non profit, now what in the world is the BLM doing accessing your IRS records to check this, their status as a non-profit was
questioned because they said all the claims they had were worth to much and they could not be classified as a non profit so they had too give up claims.

More power to the cast and crew of the show! Anyone the files a claim anywhere in Arizona knows the crap they stick you with.
Original 1876 mining rules gave you the right to sink a shaft twenty foot deep before you filed a claim then and only then you filed the claim and had the right to your claim and create your own road to your mine.
The Government cannot look at any individual as a "Small" Recreational Miner and must give you the same rights as a large company to your mine without all the BS.

Any man that has the strength of Character to take on the system by filing a claim and doing battle for the rest of us is a true blooded American your the front line in the battle for our mining rights!

More power to the show!!!

And "Julia produced maps with FALSE information on them" so she did believe that the mine did exist or she would not have put forth false information correct?
Which leads me to the conclusion that Julia (as you agreed) started the many "tales" of the LDM. So what do we deduce from the stories told by Julia if anything? She lied in the very beginning....did she speak to anyone prior to her death in a confession type of talk? Is it documented?

Liars work in a strange was. They use a bit of truith, and wrap rhe lie around it.
So everytime the liar tells the story they will insert different truiths ,lies.
Thats why cops question you over and over and over. They are peacing enough of the truith to make you think they already know what happened.
The same would be with juila stories and maps. I f possible get a hold of as many maps, and stories. There is a good chance you will be able to come up with the right area.

With more freedoms and right being lost every day, most americans thinking its OK
It very rerfeshing to have a place like the sups.

I agree with you 100 percent Bill. I am a member of the MPAA out of Kingman, and am getting a bit on edge concerning where the Feds are going with our individual rights on what is OUR land. To ensure that I always have a place to go look for a little shiny stuff, I just bought 40 acres in Gold Basin. Off the beaten path and mostly surrounded by BLM land, but at least has a bit of placer gold so I will always have the opportunity to go out and put a little gold in the pan. Not that much land, but it does have some nice washes, and I will always have my "playground". (Unless they pull an imminent domain on me.)

Always amazes me how Indian land is so sacred when there's a mine, ski resort, or some timber cutting being proposed... but boy oh boy... when it comes time to build a casino there's no such thing as "sacred land". What also amazes me... if Indian land is so sacred, why are there so many beer cans, empty whiskey bottles, and other trash strewn about so much of the land that I've personally borne witness too? Fly over it sometime and you'll see exactly what I mean. Looks like God sprayed their lands with glitter from the reflections of all the broken glass glinting back at you.

cw0909,

Did the house pass it or not?

Indian land my butt that land down there has already been worked over the years by many different mining companies foreign and domestic. It's not Sacred and the crap they've pulled about the water rights and environmental issues have sunk Tucson into a depression. It's funny though how all of our mineral's and mines are all going to foreign companies. Freeport, Grupo, Assarco they have claims on land miles away from any minerals surrounding the small deposits.

Not that I care that much for Tucson's City Council and their hair brained crap down here but it would be nice to see it boom down here again like the days of IBM.

It just seems they're trying to stunt growth and shove business away or give it to a foreign legion.

You know it isn't just that. If you search of all the "lost treasures", "outlaw loot", etc., etc. and where it supposedly is "buried", "stashed", or "some where in the vicinity of where it happened" in the United States, you will come to find out real quick where all these buried treasures, loot, stash, etc. are at and if you look real close and pay attention really good, you will find that everyone of them are on Federal Government Land, National Forests.......Dang!...Imagine that!.......You know the places where the government says you can't dig, collect, metal detect, etc, you know that sort of good stuff! Always ended up being on Federal Property! The Indian's don't own it!

Ah yes, of course. It's so obvious in hindsight. Thanks for the clarification. :laughing7:
I also wanted to say a few things about the show in general: the first is that you all seem like a great bunch of guys with solid hearts, and that I would hit the trails with any one of you. I'm sure I would learn a ton...I've already expressed my man crush on Woody earlier in this thread; I hope he can keep up; ya'll better not leave him behind! Let Woody do the spotting with his eagle eyes and divining rod spirit and let the youngins' do the scrambling as it seems has been the case. E the Deal with his gramps, and Eric talking about helping his parents out after losing their asses in 2008- the kids got hearts! Wayne and Sarge, makes for strange bedfellows and great tv...and Bob! I can already do a decent impression of him, sans that royal mane of his...lastly, I'm really really digging the quadcopter shots; it's a very important element to the show, namely it gives the viewer a closer idea as to how rugged the terrain can get out there. Some very beautiful scenery. Always looking forward to the next episode!

Hal,

I've worked on reservation laying roads for 25 years I must agree everyone I've been to are strewn with garbage. Maybe because of the Walk of Tears they feel no connection to the land for what the gov did to them, Just a guess! I personally don't blame them.

lol..the government gave them over 1/3 of arizona...i dont think they have anything to whine about

I'd beg to differ, forced on 1/3, you steal took 2/3. About the same ratio the gov takes from your checks and your not happy or I.
But that an't the point force to move off the land that contained there birth place and moved to a place with no connection to them.
So they have no respect for the land, no cultural connection.

But I've never heard them ever wine about it. Just mad.
