Quite amusing, I'm wondering about the usage of the word "loser" in 1941. Was it merely a literal reference to one who lost something, or did "loser" also mean "worthless SOB" as it is often used today?

well the guy who lost the wallet was trying to "smoke out" the unknown finder --by making him think that he was seen picking up the wallet and by not returning it he would be turned into the police as a thief ---however the finder called his bluff by stating if you know who I am --come claim it and I will give it to you ...in poker terms... called and raised
