    Mamabears page

mi vida loca is an appropriate title for my page, but I suppose it would be for most of us. I would love to have posts about daily life, thoughts, laughs. am not in to posting about politics or religion (unless it is non traditional) enough of that here anyways. am really interested in conversing with other women TH'ers. but won't exclude the bro's.
last night I was talking on the phone w/ my oldest daughter, 34, & as usuall we were having a profoundly spiritual conversation, when it dawned on me, we should make a film about our talks. they are so vast in topics & it helps us know in depth each others beliefs with no judgement. Any of you out there able to do the same with your kids, or another family member or friend? want to share it? no judgement here, just listening & examining, & hopefully expanding our horizons. a lot of our talks start w/ books we have read. any books moved you? here are a few of my fave pix.

Saying hello to you from England MB, and good luck with your own page.

I enjoy reading most all crime fiction books, and particluarly those written by Jeffrey Deaver, although some are abit gruesome
I like my garden, but this year we have had more rain than usual (if you can ever get more rain than we already have over here)
I try and collect perfume bottles without spending too much money, and generally mooching round table top sales.

    Re: Mamabears page

Yes, I like seeing women talking to each other too, and unicorn, someone from another country is great.

Since you asked about books mamabear, I'm sad to say I don't read as much as I used too, not books anyway. I spend alot of time reading this forum

I went thru a reading phase because of Oprah's book club a couple of years ago, and one of those books stayed with me quite a bit. "Stones from the river" About a young polish? girl with dwarfism and her experiences during world war II. It was haunting, as was the color purple, and Beloved.

Animal Farm when I was in the 5th grade had a big influence on me, as did all of Leon Urisis's books. My parents were avid readers, and didn't really censer what we read. I do miss reading, but finding time is hard.

Mamabear it's great you have good conversations with your daughter, right now I don't have another female who I get to have those talks with. I think women my age are just too dang busy. But I work closely with 3 other women, so I do get some female companionship.

    Re: Mamabears page

Hi Unicorn. wow, it must really be wet over there if there is more rain than usual. I lived in the pacific northwest for 20+ yrs, & was always told the weather is similar to Englands. My garden was great when I lived there, but if we had excessive rains all I got was moldy plants. Now I live in MO, where we do a dance for joy when we get a rain.
I love perfume bottles. My mom-in-law collects them, & it's a treat to go through them & see how unusual they are. I like the really old ones myself. but what I collect the most are rocks. crystals, fossils, semiprecious gemstones. etc. My daughter is wanting me to get rid of some, but I'm afraid she is gonna have a fight on her hands. I can tell you where I picked up pretty much each one. I have some opalized petrified wood from WYO. that my daughter & I dug way out in the middle of nowhere. & the time we had digging it was way to much fun. so it's not just the rocks, it's the memories too.
NG, most of my "girl" time is w/ my daughters, but some friends & I get together about 4 times a yr. for "the ladies luncheon" We exchange gifts, mostly little joke gifts, pictures of families, catch up on each other. we vary from 48 to 80. we did have a friend that was 90, but we lost her last yr. she left us with some wonderful memories, & lots of smiles. as far as reading, I can't get to sleep unless I read. don't know how many books I go through a yr. but I keep the used book store in in business

    Re: Mamabears page

I've always loved looking at rocks, brought some home, but not like I wanted too. Seemed kinda silly, but now just look out. With the internet I can learn what they are. wow, someone who does that all the time, cool mamabear. I saw some pretty rocks in your picture of artifacts and did you say geodes? There is so much sandstone around here, you think that's all there is. since I've been looking harder at the ground lately, I'm finding different little pebbles, most of the stuff that's different is very small. Limestone is our next predominent rock, and it gets more interesting, but I have a lot too learn.

Unicorn, when I saw you collect perfume bottles, I thought of my Grandmothers bottles on little shelves in the bathroom. Nothing old or collectible, but as a little girl I liked opening them and just looking at them. some were so small and fancy! I liked that. Your "table top" sales might be like our yard sales? Find lots of good stuff at them, cheap.

Oh yeah, daily life? Today, A memeber of T-net, Sandcreek4, whom I haven't met just yet, sent a Metal Detector my way! A back up she bought at a yard sale, how nice is that?

    Re: Mamabears page

Ok, Don Jose, any man who would venture into women's world should know better than to blantanly ask for bikinis, unless you've been whacked by a windmill or two. And I think it's fine for women to share bikinis if they got the stuff, but you don't see too many women asking for pics of speedos, (shudder).

I still like this idea of women, and a few "mature" men talking, but it hasn't caught on. Mamabear seems like a very nice person, c'mon, gals.!

One more try, my daily life:

woke up to thunder, good, I love storms. pulled on jeans and t-shirt, and went outside and tried to get a good shot of lightening on the camera. not this morning.

fed the cats, the dog, kissed the hubby goodby, and went to work. left a sinkful of dirty dishes. i can live with that.

Did what I had to do to meet deadlines at work, then clocked out to work on my stuff. Can do things like that if I'm responsible and take care of business first. Also have a cool woman/husband team for bosses.

Came home the long way, in case there was something to take a picture of. wasn't today.

Checking out T-net now, 'cause there are nice people here.

Need to do something about supper and those dishes soon, then I get to enjoy the evening.

    How was ur day?

    Re: Mamabears page

Hi Nature girl. Yup I think he has a lot of testicular fortitude to be asking for bikini pix! & yes it must have been one to many hits with the windmill.
I have been trying to get my house somewhat back together. Tore carpet out room by room, moving furniture where ever there was room. But my daughter is coming back from the summer w/ Gram, & I want it to be a little nicer for her. Or course, we still have plywood for flooring, but it is better than the carpet we had. K, my daughter, starts college next wk. so we are gonna be busy getting all her supplies ready, & figuring out where her classes are. We live close enough to her school that she will just commute w/ friends.
I have tried to catch some pix of lightning, but it won't work w/out a time lapse lens (I think) I will keep trying. I have a bald hill that is perfect for viewing storms. Yesterday I went there when the storm first came up. There was so much rotation in the clouds right above me I was afraid there was gonna be a tornado! Luckily one didn't form, cuz I just sat there watching it. I have heard that if lightning strikes your car as long as you aren't touching metal you won't get hurt. I wonder if that applies to keeping the sunroof open? not the glass part, just the shade part? where's Bill Nye the science guy when you need him?
I had a good time hunting w/ Baldingboy on Sun. It was the first time I have met him. So I was a little concerned about going out in the woods w/ a stranger. I did call a friend & let her know what I was doing, where I was going, & when I would be back. I hope all you ladies do that too? Poor guy though, I wear a pistol when I am in the woods. who knows whats gonna jump out & get ya. I did warn him tho, before we went that I do that. Any helpful hints for meeting up w/ THers ya don't know? We need to be smart about this stuff. Lets share our experiences & learn from each other.
Oh ya, we had a double rainbow in a golden sky after the storm yesterday, & my camera was dead!!

    Re: Mamabears page

Ok, the rest of what you said, mine graduated college a few years ago. Still lives in the college town,'cause he found a band to play with. But he has a job and is on his own and learning about how hard it can be these days to make it, even with a college degree. His love is music, maybe having that in his life is more important than a nice comfortable life. Sigh, he's gotta work that out. the apronstings are untied and dropping to the floor slowly....

Had to laugh about meeting a tnetter and the whole gun in the woods thing. Serious subject. I have questions about that too. I personally don't mess with guns because I don't know them. They are in my house, husband hunts, but I have always left them alone. I wonder sometimes, if I need to learn about them because I don't want to give up going into the woods. Alone many times, because it just makes me feel good. I just told another t'netter, I'd like to show her and her kids a really cool place, in the woods, and I know she's packin'. something to talk about.

as for lightening pics, I've been trying the video approach, then capture the frame you like on the computer. Kills batteries real fast. 7 minutes of video taped darkness. It Streaked across the sky as soon as I turned the camera off.

    supper's burning...

    Re: Mamabears page

I hope you went looking for that "pot of gold" at the end of the rainbow nature girl .
Well after complaining about the rain we have here in the UK, this week has been quite warm, makes a real change for us. What's with this Global Warming we don't see too much of that here
My three children are all grown now and have flown the nest, all but one are married, and he is determined to stay single, says he loves his life as it is, so who am I to interfere Have five grand/kiddies, and even one of those is at work now, the only other one old enough to work is having a hard time finding employment. Don't know what it's like over in the US, but jobs are becoming real hard to find, he gets real downhearted sometimes.
So with all the family left home now, my hubby and I have alot more spare time. But secretly, I do miss not having any of them still living at home. I really enjoy being a Mother.
Well Don Jose, your "quip" about bikinis, sheesh those days have long gone, in fact I was thinking to myself I would be better dressed for the beach in one of those "burka's" that the Muslim women wear no seriously a little paddle is the way to go for me.
Please ask away ladies if there is anything you would like to know about our little Island, and I look forward mamabear, to posting in your thread.

    Re: Mamabears page

Hi Ladies! Well I went to pick up my daughter (18) at the airport last night. Have spent the last 3 days cleaning like crazy.( My Mom-in laws house is picture perfect & spotless so I wanted her to not feel to much culture shock when she walked in to the house) Of course I was sooo happy to have her coming back home after spending the summer in WA. Was getting out of the house a little later than I wanted, traffic in the city can be a royal pain, & didn't want to be late. Forgot my phone, so turned around & got it, when I noticed there was a fed ex package by the front door. Pulled back up, grabbed the box & scooted it in to the kitchen. relocked the house for the 3rd time. Finally on the road, & right before our gravel road meets the pavement I see our lab (Jake) on the side of the road. He had been hit & killed. At this point there was nothing I could do, so I covered him w/ a piece of fabric, & jump back in the car. Had to stop & get gas at the local station, as I am pumpin gas I'm crying & sniffling, getting lots of odd looks from the folks there. Ok manage that & go to pick up K's friend so she can meet her at the airport too. I take 1 step into their house & start sobbing! They plied me kleenex, & we are on our way. 2 hr. ride to the airport. Make it & there she is all bright & bubbly & happy to be back. We went to a movie & by this time I was now upset I have to tell K & ruin her welcome home. I finally let her know, & & as you can imagine she was shattered. It was one of those moments where you just don't know when the right time would be. This morn I had to call my almost ex (works out of state& it was his dog) & let him know what happened.I know Jake spent his last couple of years here happy. He was an old man, & with his previous owners had always been leashed & never able to run free. Here he had acres & acres to run in shasing squirrels & rabits. , swim in the pond, & bark at everything! even the peepers. He never chased cars, or went anywhere away from the house without one of us by him. but I think he was so happy to see the fed ex guy that he followed him out to the end of the road, & & that was the end for him. The shock is not so bad now, but I will miss his beautiful domed lab head, & the silly looks he gave when you talked to him.
I am so sorry for the person that hit him. I know they must feel bad. wish I knew who so I could apologize.
so that was my day yesterday. Today K & I had a good time unpacking her suitcase & talking about the family in WA, & how excited she is to start college. Maybe tommorow we can talk about him, & enjoy the gift of the memories he left us. Life, is at times, bitter sweet, is it not?

Mama B.....I am so sorry to hear about you losing your dog, especially in a road accident. It's going to take quite a time to get over the loss of losing him. They have so many little ways of showing their love for you and there will be times when something that you do will make you think "ah Jake used to do that". We have owned a few dogs over the course of time, but each time you lose one it's very painful for you, and always you think "never again", but then as time goes by, you find that another dog will choose you. and so it goes again.

    Re: Mamabears page

Thanx Unicorn. It's always hard to lose a pet. I really try to focus on the things I loved about him the most. Unfortunately, we live in an area where people drop off their unwanted animals all the time. I can't even remember how many we have had to take to the pound because someone didn't care. I love these critters & hate seeing the suffering they end up going through. sometimes we keep them if we can, but usually have to many to begin with. I know soon there will be another starving dog at my doorstep, & I will probably keep it. They love so unconditionally, & we are always blessed to have them, but I know there is a special place in hell for the people that abandoned them.
Enuf!! I am so happy to have my daughter home! She keeps me laughing all day & far into the night. I am glad she decided to live at home while going to college. I would miss her way to much. My other daughter is 33 & lives 1500 miles away. We talk at least 3 times a wk. She is happy & healthy, & I love her boyfriend! Ya can't ask for better than that! When they come home to visit, it is just a blast cuz they both love to TH too. & fish & do all the crazy things I love to do. They came out for the youngest's graduation, & he, (Zach) & I went fishing at a pond in the middle of the woods. The lotus was in bloom, so it was like a Monet painting, & then I caught a 5 lb. bass & he a 2 lb'r. That's what we had for the families celebration dinner, with lots left over. It was so perfect! ya should have seen him doing a jig when we reeled those guys in. funny, cuz I really didn't know what I was going to have for dinner!
You ladies have a good evening. I'm going to read & do laundry.

    Re: Mamabears page

Ahh, I just read about Jake, I'm so sorry. We live on a rural road, and as I turn the corner and approach our house, I unconsciously scan it for our dog, I've found one or two of our cats that way, and I hate it. All cats are indoors now, and we won't get another dog till our old one is gone, because she is such an escape artist, she would teach a puppy all her tricks. But it such a loss, and and awful too find them that way.

I'm glad your daughter is home, it sounds like you missed her greatly. That's good she's gonna stay at home for college. I cried everytime our son went back to school after a weekend home. It really is hard to let them go. He's been away from home for awhile now, he's 26, but I always miss him. We don't talk on the phone much, and he doesn't come home much, and I sure do miss him. It's funny, now when I dream about him, it's when he was a little boy.

Unicorn, you said you collect perfume bottles, what's the oldest one? and What is the one you would most like to have? I guess you probably have them from all over Europe? When I'm out in the woods I'm always on the lookout for old bottles. Only where I live, you don't have a chance of finding anything older than 125 years old. White man has only populated this area for about that time. England is so old. I try to imagine what it's like to have so many old places around you like that.

It's beautiful weather here today, unusually cool. I think I'll see if a coworker wants to take our kayaks out and paddle down a new stream looking for anything we can find. If I ever find a perfume bottle, I'll send it to you. Y'all have a nice day.

    Re: Mamabears page

Good Day to you Mama Bear and Nature girl.........The weather never seems to reach very temps over here. We think that the upper 70's is really hot, so when I read about Countries reaching 80-90 deg I try to imagine what it must be like having to work in the heat. We have an almost obsession about weather over here, and it always comes into our every day conversations.
We were talking about our pets earlier on and I forgot to mention about our cat that has adopted us. It is almost 12 months since he started coming to visit us. He looked so bedraggled and hungry, so naturally we fed him, and that was it!!!! every day he came back, was fed, and off he would go. It was during the winter and very cold, I did worry about him being out. Well it wasn't long before he decided that we were an "ok" home, after all it was warm lol. After a couple of months of settling in we took him to the vets for a check up, and we were surprised when she told us that he was an older cat. she told us he needed some of his teeth out, and of course he had to have the usual injections, de-worming, and de-fleaing. All in all this stray cat has cost us quite abit of money, but to see him today is just great. He is jet black and his coat now just shines with good health. He must have belonged to someone because he had been neuterd ( one expense less) lol We didn't give him a very imaginative name, just "tibs", but he has really settled down fine now, I am pleased he has got somone now who will give him a comfortable life in his "old age"
Nature Girl, you are kind to think of me regarding perfume bottles. I am afraid none of mine are very old, just ones that I pick up in table top sales. I did have 2 Royal Brierley crystal bottles that looked beautiful when the sun shone thru them and caught the light of the cut glass. Unfortunately I have lost one of them. I did a silly thing and sent it by air mail to a dear friend in America, forgetting about the restrictions that customs have made about carrying bottles. So I fear that it has been confiscated, which is very unfortunate, but it was my own fault. On reflection, I wished that I hadn't declared it on the customs form, but it's too late now. sigh.

I hope you both keep well, and have a good weekend

    Shirley
