gold in ny?

I was wondering if there are maps or proof of gold being found in ny?And do you ALWAYS find gold where theres black sand? I live in the catskills(southern) and as a child, i remember a stream i use to play in,and i remember black sand,do you suppose i look for gold?It's unheard of in my area. thanx for your help!

i can't help you with map or proof, but i take weekends in the summer in southern schoharie county and the property i stay on has a sizeable stream w/ black sand. i only just got into MD/TH so i can't wait for my first trip up in a couple of weeks.
gold in NY is unheard of, but doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Back in mid 1600's Dutch explorers found silver ore in the catskills and traces of gold. I just saw a post on this with a link to another site that had the info. I'll try and locate it for you.
