Hundreds of sites available in your state!

Here is a free tip on how to research while its still cold and the ground is hard. Go to your local county court house tax office and ask for the old government survey plats for your area. They usually date from 1835 to 1880. Sometimes they have a photocopy of the entire county for 10 or so dollars. Pick up a 2007 topography map book for your state usually at a book store. By comparing the old map to the new, you'll find detecting areas that few people knew existed. Once you find a promising site then return to the tax office and track down the current owner for permission to hunt. Some of those plat maps can be quite detailed pin pointing pioneer settlements, taverns, Indian towns, watering holes and pioneer settlers homes. Good luck!

Thanks for this good info. This is a Treasure in its own by showing where & how to look when the weather is just to bad to be out there hunting.
