    Where do I find detailed maps of area, especially if they are 1800's??

    Hi all wondering where to find maps in great detail? I want to find them in the year of the mid 1800's? I live in Hawaii so it is kind of hard to find them! Any information is much appreciated!

    You can find Hawaii maps here but most are from the 1920's...good luck

    You might also want to try a college or University library there. Any University worth its salt will have maps like this. You'll also be able to request a copy, perhaps.

    Sanborn fire insurance maps are on-line and show individual buildings.

    I've noticed that some of the links listed above are selling the same maps you can download for free at the Library of Congress web page.

    Don't pay for what you can have for free!

    You may have to download a MrSid or JPEG2000 (also free) reader to view the maps.
