As we know Philadelphia is rich in history, but the city is limited to metal detecting due to the Fairmount park system and other city restraints. So while trying to find old maps, I ran across this website that uses old maps, that can be overlaid with new maps of the city. On the right hand side, you have maps you can tic on and off. I click satellite view in the top left hand corner then I turn off everything on the right hand section and then I tic the map on the right hand section 1895 atlas which give a perfect overlay of the satellite view from 1895 with the old houses in Philadelphia. As I zoom around the overlay I will find targeted sections, and un-tic the 1895 map so I can look at the google satellite map to see if the house is still on the property or if it is no longer there and just a plot of land.
