    old marble

    found at the lake it was 5'' in the ground is this marble an old one.

    That one's purty..

    As a pretty good rule,buried marbles are old marbles. Generally 1930s/40s. I've dug marbles buried 6' deep. If it's highly mineralized soil you'll get marbles with outer surface mineralized/wavy patterns. Where I live in the Mojave Desert any marbles left on the surface for a length of time become sandblasted. Under the right conditions marbles buried for eighty years or more still look like the day they were made. Dig around where you found that marble and you might find more.
