    Unusual Marble? What is it.

This marble may not be unusual at all to you collectors but its the only one I've seen like it. Below is the collection of marbles that we had collected up at my parents house. A few may have been theirs orginally but alot of them were found over the years while arrowheading hunting plowed fields. The one in particular was my most recent find 4-5 years ago on a rocky creek bank while doing a canoe trip. It looks like china without the glaze and has a pretty blue flower design with bands running around it. Can you pros tell me what it is? Are any of the other marbles collectible. None are for sale I just would like to know their historical background. thanks in advance.

It is a lined China marble. Those definitely have collector value. I have found a handful as well walking creeks and fields. Mine is also badly faded but, I still like it.

Thanks Chuck!!! Your little bit of info allowed me to track my marble down and what I found was awesome! My marble is part of the oldest commercially made marbles and very collectible. Unglazed pinwheel china marbles were made in Germany from 1846-1870 and distinguished by their pin wheel or flower design with multiple bands. I found a link with their history below

I also found a German website with a picture of one almost identical in design with my own and its also said it was produced between 1846-1870.

Man I love this website. Ive collected a little bit of everything, not for monetary reasons but love finding a little piece of history. Imagine a civil war aged marble ends up on a rocky creek bank miles from anywhere for who knows how long until I come paddling by and stop to look for arrowheads. A true little treasure.
