As you can see I have some nice large marbles but the small ones ar transparent. How do you photograph your marble to show markings?

I use two lights with the aluminum reflectors behind them, one on either side shining down at the marble, then put the marble on a neutral or black background (an old T-shirt works) and set the camera to macro mode and take as close of a shot as I can with the camera keeping sharp focus.

You need bright light facing the marbles. I use natural sunlight. I shoot on a white board. I even have a board I drilled holes in so they don't roll around. Set your camera on Macro.

Photographing mibs takes practice for sure. And, even after almost two years of attempting to capture the little beauties, I'm still not satisfied with most of my photos. I still have nightmares of trying to snap a photo of a particularily defiant mica...

What if you put them in a clear vase; cylinder shaped and put a bright flashlight under it? You know, like lightning up a fish tank.. just a thought.
