Re: castle in northfield
This castle is actually in Erving, Ma. It is not what it sounds. Though interesting, it was a hermit that lived there in the rock ledges. There are a couple of different ways to get in there. Many people are dissapointed when they get there expecting more. If you have questions on the the hermits castle let me know. I have been there and am familiar with the town and will try to help.

I don't think you will be able to detect the Mt Hermon schools though.

Ah yes Country Girl, maybe that is the one.
I have met many people looking for or have seen the hermits "Castle" in Erving and have been very dissapointed thinking there was an actual castle that he lived in. Just trying to save a trip for some expecting more. But the one you sent may be worth looking into.

Thats right, Kidds island is in Northfield, I don't know much about the history there, but I will say that it will be rich in pulltabs.

Re: castle in northfield
The castle location in Northfield is owned by Northfield Mt Hermons school, it's a private school and would be real tough to get permission to detect, I'm sure it would be OK to walk around. Beautiful old buildings there.
Kidds Island is leased out, there are campers there all summer long. I KNOW they wouldn't let a NON member in there to detect. Besides John is right one big party spot, pull tab, can slaw heaven.

Re: castle in northfield
MT Herman will not allow metal detecting on their property. I have tried a couple of times and have had friends that have, too.

Re: castle in northfield
I actually had permision to detect there where construction was going on by the crew, but didn't feel right about it without permission from the school also. So I didn't do it.

Re: castle in northfield
I used to live there, and was on the fire department for years. I know some of the police, including the chief. If you get permission to detect anywhere up there I would love to tag along. I was actually thinking of hitting nearby Barton's Cove in Gill (if they allow detecting). At any rate if I could help out at all I would love to. I grew up nearby, and like I said, I lived in Erving for quite some time. There are some rivers going through there that have been used for ages as camping spots, recreation areas.
