For a beginner detector, what would be the top three mistakes?

Well, it's all been covered. I can only add this. "YouTube" videos. Do not think that your machine isn't working right, or that you just are not getting it, because of all the "Good" stuff you're being shown that they find. What you DO NOT see is all the junk that THEY dig. We ALL do. Enjoy the hobby for what it is, after all, whenever and wherever you go out to hunt, you just "never know". To sum it up, a quote from "Andy Sabisch", well known Treasure hunting guy. "The most valuable thing I have ever found while treasure hunting is piece-of-mind".

This was a great thread to read, as a newbe, I have probably read right books on MDing, countless YouTube videos and set up a practice garden, taking it all one step at a time, acquiring the necessary equipment, before I feel ready for actual field work.
