Im a newbie at this. I live in the desert where the dirt is cement hard at times what is a good way to dig targets without having to stab at the ground potentailly ruining a good coin?

Pretty much the opposite of back east.

May - mid October do your research With the last storm the soil should be easy digging. Hunting during the summer season in parks is tough at best unless you hunt in parks that are irrigated regularly. If the soil is crumbling & coming out in chunks it's best to wait otherwise you might get booted for leaving holes. If you got all your research done head up north & give nugget shooting or panning a shot.
