    Good locations, No luck

I have been metal detecting the park I work at on and off for a while. It has been a park since the early 1930's and there are tons of old homesteads from the late 1800's all over the place in the woods. I find an old stone foundation, and start detecting. And then..... I always come up empty handed. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I have what seem to be great places to search and I can't pull anything but rusty scrap metal out of the ground. I've been trying to use my detector settings and understand the beeps. But nothing seems to work. Any tips? Thanks!!

Bring it back to where you bought it and have them check it out. Then ask them what they suggest you do.
