Steve, one of the pennies was a wheat, not sure of the date, one was a 59, several mid 60s and early 70s. Most dates were hard to read. Must be the type of soil there.

I live in more the north central part in Elkmont, AL. I do have friends that used to live in Fayette and we visited the area often! I have actually been through Vernon and have fished the Tom Bigbee River near Aliceville several times. Nice meeting you. I'm always interested in what people find in my state and surrounding areas. I'm hoping to get permission this weekend to hunt a site where The Battle Of Sulpher Creek Trestle was fought in the Civil War. It's about a mile from my house. Bloodiest battle of Alabama soil during the war. Keep me updated on your finds.
