  • Hello Antiquarian!

Was just looking at the other botts you received in the 5-bott lot you purchased; I have the same, or similar bottles in my collection. I'm curious about the clear, vial-style bottle, sitting inside the ink bottle. Can you send me a picture of the base?

Yes indeed, that's a sweet wee bott! The base doesn't have a discernible pontil scar, though it may still have been a "refired pontil", which, I was told, is present on the base of the bottle pictured. I can feel the faint, but specific rough edges of a pontil scar - is the base of yours smooth to the touch, or a bit rough? You can see the top is very similar to yours.

Yes it's smooth to the touch, it also has the word HOLLAND embossed in the glass around the base. Not sure if that's the name of the maker of the vial or a pharmaceutical? :icon_scratch:

That's a very early and beautiful bottle you have there.

Antiquarian, I like your signature. I also "feel" the history & the people that use to abide in the places I hunt. I often find myself leaning against a tree & wondering what their life was like. I hunt in the woods following leads from older locals, & often times my only hint of a homestead is the flowers that still remain tho now the structure isn't evident. That's when my mind really wanders. Did "he " plant them for someone, or did "she" bring them for a little taste of her old home? So much history is there, but so much of it is disappearing all the time. Little stories our elders in the family or in the neighborhood can share, & our lives seem to fast to slow down & listen.
& you are right, laugh as often as possible.
