So were the skip jack biting or was it too cold. I spent all day in Ripley at 1st Monday. No detecting done today...

I see you are basically right down 302 about 10 minutes away from me. I am new to metal detecting and have only been out once this year but have been researching places to go once the weather turns a little cooler. Going to start with School House road right down the street in Byhalia. Was told there was an old school from the 1800's there. They have also bulldozed a lot of land off Byhalia road and moved a lot of houses in preparation for the new interstate. Any ideas for other good placed to go would be appreciated. There is also an old church from the 1800's on deer creek road and I have a lot of friends in Holly Springs who would probably let me hunt their property. One of them owns a burger joint which was a saloon in the 1800's and is right across the street from the train depot where General Grant's supplies were blown up. Can't wait to get out again and have some fun. Happy hunting.
