Depends where you live/will be using it but in the U.K. and Europe the TDI (U.S. model) seems a far better choice for both gold and general hunting. Much wider choice of coils too from Whites, Razorback, Jimmy Sierra etc. and can use Minelab G.P.X.coils. The Garrett started off around the same price as the Whites but gradually was reduced as sales were not good. Great build quality and waterproof but I hated it and soon moved on
