  • nmhunter, the MD20 is a specialized purpose machine. It is difficult to beat at finding tiny specks of gold... but the very tiny ones will only be detectable at about an inch (bigger pieces, deeper). Best of both worlds would be MD20 for specks, GB2 for pickers, AND an impulse machine for the biggies... deep. But now we're talking big bucks, too! Start with the 20, then add the 2, then save for the impulse machine. Terry
thanks Terry I knew I could count on a straight answer from you. The material I am working now is very compacted and from what I saw the MD20 looks like it would even out perform the GB2 in checking the wall . I figured I could also use it to check the tailings even though it does not look ideal for that. I saw a video where they were using 1 right is a stream.

If I understand you correctly, you only use the MD20 for your tailings and you use the GB2 to nugget shoot or find new areas to prospect.

BTW I saw somewhere that you go to Deming NM. Please let me now next time you head that way as I would love the chance to meet you.
The MD20 is a VERY good buy for the money! It is highly sensitive and will pick out a target that even the GB2 will miss. I have both, as you know. This is how I check out a tailings pile with the MD20... Every time I get a HIT (by pushing the probe through the pile), I scoop up the stones and pile them nearby. Each time I get a hit, same thing... into a nearby pile. Then, I spread out the collected stones and go over them with the MD20. I separate the targets from the non-targets. With the MD20, it is easy to do this. ... even for the faintest of targets. The GB2 is well worth the money but so is the MD20. You cannot go wrong with the MD20 when using it in this manner. Burt then, save for the GB2, also! I hope I have been of some help. Terry
