Anyway, not Saddleback. Nuevo is the place atm. Right near you there is tons of black tourmaline, garnets, aquamarine and beryl about 5min from you. Have you been there? The whole mountain is a pegmatite dike! I was going to go out there today, but because of the rains it's too muddy. The whole mountain range from Idlyewild to south of Pala is a Tourmaline zone.
There is also Cascade Canyon by Mt. Baldy that has Corundum, Ruby & Sapphire. I have some great pieces that I am trying to clean to see if the material is gemmy or not. Pieces about the size of your fingernail.
Then there are agates of all kinds out in the desert.
I'm definitely willing to go out hunting, but next week I am probably going to make my first trip to the Himalaya mine down by Pala. It costs $75 to dig, but they are the best mine when it comes to finding tourmalines. Gonna give it a shot.
