  • Researching species of canopied-trees photo'd & called oaks - I disagree. Friend thinks acacia as he found Black Locast in Halifax which are psuedo-acacias. Tracking look-alikes around globe. Hired arborists/botanists - all agreed dont look like oaks, none will "go out on a limb" and commit. some photos -eucalyptus, albizio and Stone Pine, my favorite... Like to talk.

Hi Treehunter and welcome to "The Show"! Your research very much shows what could be similar trees which once adorned Oak Island. I like the fact that the Stone Pine does come from an area around Latvia.

I researched how the Knights Templar escaped there after suffering massacres' in France and joining their fellow Teutonic Knights (1325ad). They were run out back to Scotland when Ivan the Terrible invaded mid 16th Century.

It would have been an easy decision then to cross over to OI to bury their Treasure. What they may have wanted was to conform their New Scotland (Nova Scotia) Acadia with Stone Pine seeds to give it that new home feel!
