  • Well met mamabear,
Been collecting rocks since I was a kid. Spent a lot of time in the library. I was a member of a rock and mineral club way back when and have had some people over the years help point things out. I do some prospecting as well so knowing a bit of geology helps. I look for stuff even when I detect. :) Please understand I am not an expert, just sharing my knowledge. As to resources the best guide I've ever read was the Audubon's guide on rock and minerals as it has good illustrations and many other rock hound guide books. I found coupling this information with similar reading on geology of areas I'm in and understanding of how rocks are formed answers a lot of my questions when I pick something up and wonder "Whats this and why is it here?"
I'm pretty science oriented so I guess that helps.
    Interesting ya ask. Thanks,
    DD
Hey DD, just wondering where you got your knowledge of rocks? Hobby? or school? Do you have a favorite resource book for rocks?
    Thanks, Mamabear
