I've lost 4 family members within about a year. A nephew, two brothers-in-law, and a sister. The last 3 have been recent. I know your pain.

Very sorry, double K. My uncle Brody died yesterday morning at 8:15am. All my uncles are gone now. It's probably contrary to accepted Church doctrine, but I believe we will see all our folks again someday, and every time one of us passes and shows up it will be a LARGE TIME!!

For some reason, I came across an article about Sam Kinison and the circumstances of his death. Just one death among many in the world that day, however, his being a celebrity comedian's death it received a lot of attention. Reading these reports about his death, and what happened when he died, may comfort you. There are untold thousands of similar stories out there. To science, they are the anecdotal reports and ramblings of damaged brains creating hallucinations and lights as they cascade down a chemical degradation pathway to cellular apoptosis. To those who understand that sentience is a gift of special self awareness not shared with any other biological creation, it is another lamp post to guide your understanding. A small clue of confirmation in your faith that He is good and forgiving to even the worst offenders.

Sam Kininson was no angel by any means, but it seems that even he was granted pardon. May God comfort and keep you in this time of your life and at the end of your journey here.

"On Friday April 10, 1992 about 7:30 pm, Kinison and his wife were driving in a Pontiac Trans-am from Los Angeles to Laughlin, Nevada where he was going to perform before a sold out audience. He was sober and drug free. Behind his car was his brother Bill and two other assistants in a van with Kinisonā€™s dog. A couple of teenagers in a 1974 Chev truck were approaching the Trans-am on Highway 95 near the California-Nevada border. They had been drinking and the truck crossed the center line. Sam saw the truck coming at him and managed to slow his car to 15 miles per hour in an effort to avoid a collision.

In the van behind Kinisonā€™s car his brother Bill saw the truck across the center line and yelled out "Watch out for that guy Sam, That guyā€™s in your lane" and then he screamed: "Watch him Sam! Watch him!"A tremendous crash followed and Bill skidded the van to a stop. He ran to check on his brother. The teenage driver had moderate injuries but his teenage passenger had only minor cuts and bruises. Sam had not been wearing a seat belt and the crash had thrown hm into the windshield. It knocked out Malika, but Kinison managed to get out of the car with what appeared to be only cuts on his lip and forehead.

His brother and the others begged him to lay down and he did with his best friend, Carl LaBove, who had been in the following van. holding his head in his hands. At first it looked like there were no serious injuries to Kinison, but within minutes he suddenly said to no one in particular "I donā€™t want to die. I donā€™t want to die." LaBove later said "it was as if he was having a conversation, talking to some unseen somebody else" some unseen person. Then there was a pause as if Kinison was listening to the other person speak. Then he asked "But why?" and after another pause LaBove heard him clearly say: "Okay, Okay, Okay.ā€™ LaBove said: "The last ā€˜Okayā€™ was so soft and at peace...Whatever voice was talking to him gave him the right answer and he just relaxed with it. He said it so sweet, like he was talking to someone he loved." Kinson then lost consciousness. Efforts to resuscitate him failed. Kinison died at the scene from internal injuries. He was just thirty eight years old.

After his death there was a lot of speculation about Sam Kinison's last conversation with an unseen companion and what was being said to him. I'll let you draw your own conclusions."

"Just six days after the wedding to his girlfriend Malika Souiri, Kinison's white Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was struck on U.S. Route 95 by a seventeen-year-old who had been drinking, four miles north of Interstate 40 and several miles west of Needles, California. He had taken US 95 North instead of taking the well known shortcut to Laughlin, Nevada. His best friends J.J. Wall and Carl LaBove were in the van behind him. Kinison got out of his car and fell to the ground, and LaBove picked him up and held him until help came. As they sat on the road, LaBove reports that Kinison was looking down the road and laughed and was talking to somebody and said, "No, not now." Then he laughed and said, "No, not yet," and laughed again. He said, "Ok, ok," then died in the arms of his best friend. Oddly enough, Kinison often joked about drunk driving and the futility of trying to prevent it in his act, firmly stating: "We're going to drink, we're going to drive, we're going to pull it off." His wife survived the accident. The other driver received only minor charges. It has been said the teenage driver was later found to not be over the BAC limit and even gave CPR to Kinison after the accident. However, the veracity of this information has never been verified and appears dubious as the consumption of any alcoholic beverages below the age of 18 in every U.S. state is illegal. Kinison's brother accounts in the documentary Sam Kinison: Why Did We Laugh? that the "kid that hit him was stuck in his truck" and said nothing of any attempt made by the teen to assist Kinison. Kinison was later found to have very slight traces of cocaine in his bloodstream. [3] Friends and relatives insisted that the comedian was 100% sober at the time of the collision."

"Kinison was working to become clean and sober in the months before his death and he married his girlfriend Malika Souiri in 1992. Just six days after the wedding, Kinison's white Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was struck by a seventeen-year-old drunk driver on US 95, four miles north of where it intersects Interstate 40, near Fort Mohave, Arizona and Needles, California. He was not wearing a seat belt, and his chest struck the steering wheel upon impact. His best friends J.J. Wall and Carl LaBove were in the van behind Sam. Sam got out of his car and fell to the ground Carl picked him up and held him until help came. As they sat on the road Carl reports that Sam was looking down the road and laughed and was talking to somebody and said no not now. Then he laughed and said "no, not yet" and laughed again then he said "ok, ok". He then died in the arms of his best friend."

"On April 10, a convoy of vehicles set out toward Laughlin, Nevada. The passengers included Sam (who could have flown but was nervous of planes), Malika, his best friend comedian Carl LaBove and older brother and manager Bill. Bill took care of Sam, picking up his career, dismissing some of his more wayward entourage and now booking him a three-year residency in Vegas. Bill knew the real Sam ā€“ a goof-off, a fuck-up, a ā€œmisguided missile, a prick, a truthtellerā€ in his own words. Sam always felt bad around Bill, felt he was constantly letting him down. But Bill took care of Sam.

Turning north onto Highway 95 around sunset, a truck came speeding head-on towards them. Sam, leading the convoy, wiggled the front of his car to alert the driver, swerved but it was no use. The truck driver was a 17 year old with a couple of beers inside him. Sam had once done a bit about drink driving. ā€œWhat is the big DEAL? How are we supposed to get the CAR back to the HOUSE? We will drink and we will drive. Because most of us pull it off every single FUCKING NIGHT!ā€ But not tonight. Sam seemed unhurt. Carl LaBove assured him heā€™d be all right, held his head. But Sam seemed to be in conversation with some invisible entity. ā€œWhy now?ā€ he asked. ā€œI donā€™t want to die.ā€ Then, after a pause, he replied ā€œOK . . OKā€, as if having seen reason and, peacefully, shut his eyes and stopped breathing."
