Goldmaster tips and help

I have only hunted a sluice mine once and I'm shure it was well hunted but I know I went to fast and probably didnt do anything right.

Any tips on setting the gain on a gold master(4b)?

I only dug loud signals and only found square nails, when you are hunting do you dig at signals theat barely break threshhold?(I was just reading nugget shooter articles last night)

I was thinking of the next time I go out trying to dig a little to detect new ground, I would mainly try this around where I have heard nuggets to be found,good idea or no?

Sound loud, The other day when I was out playing , when I would ground balance and the coil would just barely go louder on the down stroke I had pretty loud soud level, Is this a sign that I was using to much gain?

As I dig targets using plastin trowel I chek to see if the signal is gone and slowly pour the dirt over the coil to find the target, any better methods? I go a pinpointer with the detector but dont use it, it seem like you have to actually touch the target, shoul I be using the pinpointer more?

Any other tips would help, I cant wait till I can make it up to gold country.

Properly tuned, and using high performance headphones, the Goldmaster 4/B can find flakes of gold as small as 1/10th grain. The key with ANY manually ground balanced gold machine is to properly tune it. For optimum performance, use as much gain as soil conditions will allow, but don't overdo it. Also, precise ground balance is essential; the farther out of ground balance you are, the more the detector will react to the ground, and not to nuggets. Stability is required to be able to hear those faint signals indicative of small, or deep, targets. Yes, MOST nuggets produce very faint signals, because most nuggets are small. Big nuggets are rare. If the detector emits weird noises as the coil is lowered, it is either out of balance, or, the gain is too high. The most detailed book on how to optimally tune a manually ground balanced detector is "Advanced Nuggetshooting - How to Prospect for Gold with a Metal Detector."
