I like the 5x10" for "most" hunting. It covers more ground per swing, which is a very important consideration. It's easy to maneuver in brush, rocks, bedrock.

Geo,
I was told by a dealer when I bought my X70 that yes, the 5x10 is waterproof
It's also the better of the 2 when prospecting, JMO

I talked to my dealer and he said: (Hope I remember it right)
The 5x10 is for bigger gold close to the surface or in tight areas however the small 6" is more sensitive to small gold and also deeper on small gold. 6" is great on specimens and ore samples.
Hope this helps,
Eu

All Exterra coils are water resistant.
The only DD coil that is water proof is the 6" HF DD
All the conentrics are waterproof
That info is is from the VP of Minelab North America. After many debates at another forum and conflicting info from various people at Minelab. The ? was asked be a mod. over at the other forum and after a period of time thats the answer that came back.

If you are serious at finding gold nuggets, you should invest in both the 6" DD & th 5"x10" DD. I have both of these coils that I use with my x-terra 705 and they both have their realms where they excel in. I have found gold nuggets with both coils. The elliptical coil is your general gold coil and the 6 " is for areas that you have already searched thuroughly and want to pick up on the really tiny pieces. It all adds up. the 6" also excels at searching bedrock and cracks. It can find tiny pieces of gold a little deeper. you really should get both. also the 10.5" DD High frequency.
