There has been small amounts of Gold found in a few areas in the Wichita Mountains
of S.W. OKLA. There were a few minor Rush's back in the late 1800's and into the
early 1900's. Problem is finding land where you can hunt on. Here's a list of some of
the creeks they have found Gold in: Otter Creek ( Tillman and Jackson Counties )
North Fork of the Red River ( Greer and Jackson Counties ) Middle Otter Creek
4miles S.E. of Roosevelt, in Kiowa County; numerous other creeks and drainages
in Comanche, Greer, Jackson, Kiowa, and Tillman County's. "Grandma" at the Old
Plantation Restaurant in Medicine Park ( N.W. of Lawton ) is a local historian with
a lot of information on the Gold rush in that area ( if she is still alive ). this should
get you started in your quest. Gold in that area is apt to be fine, don't know if there
is / was any nugget's found or not. You need to use a pan first to locate any sign
then worry about finding nuggets with a detector. If you have never hunted Gold
with a pan be for PM me and I will tell you how to do it. HH
