Me & a 2-LB Nugget

At this weekend's GPAA/LDMA Vein Mountain outing, I had a chance to catch up with William Wilcox, the Nugget Man. He's quite a character, and I enjoyed swapping stories and lies with him. As many of you know, Will found a nugget while detecting in CA that weighs just under 24 troy ounces or 2 troy pounds. He was kind enough to let me hold this beauty and pose for a picture with it. It sure was a great feeling... ;D

Well, it depends on you, I to would save it until (/if) I need the money.. Then POSSIBLY sell.
When finding gold it can get a sort of sedimentary value..
You know like old family possessions.

Hey.. those size nuggets don't come around to often. Bye the way he may be fortunate and not need the money. I'd keep it , and sell the small stuff under one ounce. Way to go.....geeee by the looks of that nugget and the 9 pounder they found in Neveda city the other week, the oold timers missed some. :icon_thumright:

Re: Me & a 2-LB Nugget

its hard to find a buyer for a piece that size..... also more than likely a guy who finds a piece that size and its not pure luck has found and sold/traded lots more and has lots more to sale......and lots of people who found a piece that big might not ever tell you they even have it....the fever hits everyone different.......ive sold a fair amount and havent found a piece ive been sentimental for...really im sentimental for the act of researchin and findin it and hope the price stays this high for a while.

Whats that...like $40 grand?
According to his book, it is one of the 1400 largest known nuggets. You are right, gold value is $40k, but the specimen value as a single nugget of that size is roughly $80,000! (according to appraisal, not me ;D )

I have some gold I found in the 50's and inherited some from the 40's. Always keep the biggest and best as a hedge against the falling dollar. Gold I found at $50-$300 an oz is now worth over $1,200 soooooooooo that beats my bonds and cds all to death as an investment. Anyplace on the planet you have instant cash and I do mean CASH with no strings attached-John :hello2:

You seem to be doing ok in that Mythical Lost Alabama High Ground Groove you're working. ;D
But I know what you mean - It's wonderful to dream of finding that much all in one lump, instead of a picker or flake at a time. :D
Keep diggin'!

That is great but if S*** hit the fan you would want nuggets of smaller size for trading and buying food, ammo and TP. So I would probable trade it in for smaller pieces of gold.

He would have no trouble selling it for gold value, but it is worth more as a nugget.....There are several casinos in Vegas that would buy it......

That is different, it' isn't that you can't sell it, it is that you haven't got the offer your willing to accept for it.

If it is pure 24k gold the melt value is $23,780.25, you have been offered twice that......

It would be the same as my saying I can't sell my indian artifact bear bladder water bottle that was found in a cave in New Mexico, (I have turned down over $4000 for it) when the fact is I can sell it, I just haven't been offered enough money to tempt me to sell it......
