Leave the Etrek in the pickup and get a gold detector if you want a chance at finding nuggets, the ML explorer series arn't much good at finding nuggets. Nugget finding is probably the most difficult type of detecting there is, improve your chances by using a gold detector.

The Minelab x-terra 705 will detect coins and can double as a nugget detector with the 18.75kHz elliptical coil. Of course it won't detect as deep as a pulse induction detector and it's not as sensitive as a 60 kHz Fisher Gold Bug, but that is one of the rare detectors that can do both. Your Etrac is not meant for detecting gold nuggets. AUduke is right leave it in the pickup or at home. Maybe there is the outside chance it might perform somewhat with a small coil, I know it does have a lot of frequencies running at the same time (up to 100KHz). Some dude in Australia is claiming to find nuggets down to 2 grams with his at this link: http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...etector+gold+nuggets&cd=9&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

but again, remember it still is not a dedicated gold nugget detector.
